This is my first fountain pen, and I haven't had it long. That said, it works excellently for my purposes, much better than what I've used before (very inky black rollerball varieties).
I use it for everyday writing of all sorts, and in particular for taking notes. I take notes and do work in maths and humanities on the back sides of once-used 8.5"x11" paper, which gives me a lot of room to write big, which I find requires less effort. The fine nib suits this purpose well. I think the medium is a bit too big for me to write neatly enough since I tend to scrunch my letters. The extra fine would work very well too, perhaps even better.
Don't bother with the cartridges. Get the adapter. I've only tried one kind of ink (Parker Quink Black) and it is perfect for me -- dries almost instantaneously on plain white printer paper, leaving good definition.

This is a good writing pen. I use it everyday - it has good ink flow, writes well, ink inserts last a long time. I recommend it.
