An All In One where only certain features work July 11, 2010 Melnorme (Boulder, CO) I tried to get this printer to work, but in the end it just wasn't meant to be. The print function of this printer was fine. I really liked how there were separate trays for plain paper, photo paper, and even for DVDs. But the scanner was a dud. Every time I tried to scan, my printer would lock up and I had to unplug it to get things running again. I checked the HP forums, and apparently this problem is not all that uncommon. Some speculate that the printer has some sort of issue exiting low power mode and powering up the scanner, which causes the printer to crash. Whatever the problem may be, I paid for an all in one, not a plain printer, so back to the store it goes. I returned it for a Canon Mx870, and am so far much happier.
What a pile of junk! July 7, 2010 J. Foran (Lakes Region, Maine) I have had the Photosmart Premium for about six months. Like all HP printers I have used in the past five-ten years, the longer I've had it, the poorer it performs. In addition, the feature-laden nature of this machine means an astonishingly complicated user interface, and error codes that HP itself doesn't even recognize. Tonight, it won't load paper. In the old days, this meant dirty rollers or bad paper. With this machine, it could also mean that it doesn't like the ink status, or that there is a glitch with the wireless, or whatever. The HP website is worse than useless. It tells you to disconnect the power supply to reset the machine while the display is telling me NOT to disconnect the power supply "to avoid damamge". I give up. HP has hoodwinked me for the last time. Like Microsoft, they keep cramming features into their printers "because they can", while I, the long suffering user, just want a printer that works - simply, reliably, and for longer than six months. When will they get the message? Judging from the Microsoft Windows ewxperience, probably along about the time they go out of business... My advice: do NOT buy this printer - if my experience is any indication, it just isn't worth the hassle.
Seemed Like A Great Deal July 4, 2010 Johnny Cash I have purchased this printer from Costco about nine months ago. I did not have any issues with the setup (thankfully) did the wireless setup right out of box and everything worked fine. I have done mostly document printing, scanning and some photos. It seems like this printer uses a lot of ink but given my light usage, it wasn't a huge deal. I was happy with the speed and quality of print.
The copy/scan function stopped working - this applies to both directly from the glass as well as ADF. The message is pretty bogus: "Original Jam - Reload document and then restart job". I get this same exact message even when trying to scan directly to computer. Printing works just fine, there is no paper jam. When trying to copy or scan, I do hear some weird noises which are slightly different then when it used to work so I'm guessing there is something wrong with the copy/scan imaging mechanism.
HP customer support offered to send me a refurbished unit after minimal troubleshooting (they must be getting a lot of calls on this printer). Given all the issues being reported on this printer who knows what I'm getting with the refurbished unit.
7/15/2010 UPDATE - Since I have not received the refurbished printer I have decided to call HP Support. They gave me a completely different story than what the original agent told me. They are now saying that I have to send them my printer first in order to get the refurbished one. If I want them to send me the refurbished one first, I need to give them my credit card as collateral. I have requested a case manager, they gave me another number, I called, they put me on hold then hung up on me.
The worst printer you could ever hope for... June 29, 2010 L. Robertson (Orlando, Fl) Bought this for speed. Ha!
When it is printing, it is faster than my old HP inkject. However, the time it THINKS about printing, faxing, scanning, turning itself on or off, and the arbitrary times it thinks about something during a printing task is PAINFUL. It takes longer to print anything because of these delays. If you knew what the thing was doing as it thought, that would be one thing. But there seems no rhyme nor reason for the VERY LONG DELAYS. For example, I depressed the off button 3.5 minutes ago and it is still not turned off.
It goes through ink like it is water.
The quality of print on photos is WORSE than my mini Canon photo printer.
It arbitrarily disconnects itself from my computer - even though it always is hooked up via cable since the wireless capabiity rarely works. I have to turn of my computer at least twice a week so it can pick up a read on the connection again.
I've had this for about 6 months and am ready to buy another - AFTER I throw this one in the pool. The most FRUSTRATING piece of equipment I have ever owned.
Shame on you HP!! You may have lost a very long term and loyal customer on this one...
