Super Nice August 25, 2010 Matthew Macniak I randomly ordered the Lamy Safari Pen on Amazon as an impulse buy. I had never actually used a fountain pen before, and I was curious as to what it was all about. The pen is more expensive than a disposable pen, but it is still very affordable in comparison to other fountain pens. The pen came with a blue ink cartridge (I would have preferred black). It was very easy to figure out how to get the ink cartridge installed and start writing. The pen writes AMAZING. It is slightly thicker than an average pen, so it fits nicely in your hand. It writes so smooth you don't need to press hard on the paper at all. The ink flows nicely from the tip, and it writes smoothly without being spotty or leaving any blank marks on the page. Honestly, I was very surprised about how well it wrote. Personally, I love it. I ordered black ink for it as well, along with the refillable cartridge. I haven't used those yet, but I'm pretty excited to give it a shot. It's a sweet pen. You should buy it.
Works great. Find is not as "fine" as I thought it would be. August 11, 2010 Thomas Rowe (Philadelphia, PA USA) Pen works fantastically. I bought a "fine" nib and anticipated a line thickness comparable to what pilot pens call "fine". The lines are rather thicker than I expected. So maybe consider getting the extra fine nib.
An excellent writer, fantastic price. June 26, 2010 S. Medzyk (Lancaster, Ca, US) This was among my first fountain pens, and it is an everyday writer for me. It isn't a 'pretty' pen that you're afraid to use, but it looks good! Mine bangs around in a backpack just fine.
They're much lighter than they look, and can be used all day with very little hand fatigue. The ability to change out nibs on your own is really nice, and means you can have a massive array of nib sizes with only one body for much cheaper than you could buy separate pens for.
don't waste your money June 22, 2010 K. Eshnaur (Paola, Kansas USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
about the worst pen i've ever had. You can't write one single word without stoppage of ink flow. so what should take ten minutes to write, well just double it...you have to go over parts of each letter 1, 2 or 3 times. I've bought the converter but haven't tried it yet; according to others, it's a necessity. And you if you really want a fine point pen, this isn't it. At the very least, it's a medium
Finally, Affordable Excellence June 8, 2010 David C. Baker (Nashville, TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a pen lover, and was a little leary of this pen, it being plastic and all. But the feel of it is quite ergonomic. And, most importantly, you can leave it unused for weeks at a time and it'll write well with a solid line right out of the gate. I always buy blue so that it is obviously not black laser printing just made to look personalized, and the blue ink is nice. The pen is a little pricy given it's material makeup, but I'm thrilled with it. For some reason, writing with a fountain pen--especially on a good paper--takes me back a couple of centuries and it feels "real" again. This pen is terrific, as are most pens from this company.
