Product Description

The Pelikan Souver?n Series represents the highest quality in writing instrument manufacture using only the best materials available. All fountain pens feature Pelikan's unique differential piston filling system to ensure a large ink capacity with a visible indication of ink level via the translucent barrel (or portion of the barrel in the case of all black or dark blue pens). The Pelikan Souveran 800 fountain pen is an all-time classic for its traditional styling and impeccable performance. The 800 Series is oversized for those who prefer extra-large writing instruments. The fountain pen has a handcrafted 18kt bi-color gold and rhodium nib. It fills only from an ink bottle. The 800 series has solid brass inner components and 18kt gold layered clip and trim.

Fountain Pen Features:

  • Classic black color acrylic resin finish barrel and cap with gold-plated trims.
  • Gold-plated Pelikan's beak shaped clip.
  • Hand-crafted finely engraved 18K bi-color gold and rhodium nib available in fine medium or broad sizes.
  • Classic plunger mechanism with a visible indication of ink level via the translucent portion of the barrel.

The Pelikan M800 is the perfect fountain pen. I've owned one with the black barrel & gold furniture for nearly a year, and it is by far my favorite fountain pen. I use other fountain pens in my collection, but I always return to my M800 after a day or so away from it. Here are the reasons why I love this pen:

1. Ink capacity - This pen has a huge ink capacity. I can go for 2 or 3 weeks at a time without needing to refill the ink reservoir.

2. Filling mechanism - I really like the piston mechanism used to draw ink into the pen. The brass piston always operates smoothly, and the piston screw never comes loose after it's tightened.

3. Nib - I have to admit that this pen isn't the best-writing pen in my fountain pen collection, but it's still a smooth writer that's always a pleasure to use. I have a fine nib, but it writes a little more like a medium. I've heard that this is pretty typical of Pelikan pens. The nib itself is a beauty; it's a 2-tone 18k gold nib with a pelican engraved on it. Also, the nib can easily screw out from the barrel, making changing nibs easy as can be.

4. Reliability - This pen never skips and it starts writing every time the nib hits the paper, even after sitting idle for several days. There are never any leakage problems, either. I don't have to be afraid of a blob of ink flying out when I use this pen.

5. Craftsmanship - Everything on this pen is put together beautifully. The gold trim complements the black finish perfectly, and it's not so much gold that it looks gaudy. (This is coming from a guy who prefers white gold to yellow gold!) The M800 is also a durable pen. I've accidentally dropped it once or twice, and nothing has ever broken on it. (I wouldn't recommend regularly abusing it, though!) The resin has proven to be tough.

6. Size - This might be a drawback to some people, but I really like the large size of this pen. I don't like using writing instruments that are too thin, and there's no need to worry about that with the M800. It's a big pen...about 6.5" posted, 5" unposted, & 5.5" capped. The barrel is just about 0.5" in diameter. I find this pen extremely comfortable to use.

All of these factors are what made the Pelikan M800 become my favorite fountain pen. I recommend this fountain pen very, very highly!
