5 out of 5 stars A looks magnet!   October 15, 2009

Everytime I take it out to sign, the other person reaction is always the same. They are greatly impressed! I own one but purchased a second set as a spare. It works marvelously. Ink flow is smooth so signatures are always perfect no matter the writing speed. Also, this pen looks much more expensive than it really is. It truly is a little jewel. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars Phileas fountain Pen blue finish   August 1, 2009

I was somewhat disappointed with the way the pen preformed. The nib had a tendency to skip occasionally, even on smooth journal paper. The nib was a bit broader than other medium nib fountain pens that I own.Otherwise, the look and feel of the pen is adequate.

4 out of 5 stars Good pen, silly cartridge selection   July 30, 2009

This pen has become my everyday pen, and I am quite happy with it for the price. I like having the bottle ink adapter, but the inclusion of all the different color cartridges seems like a waste. Most folks are probably going to use a blue or black, and those who have some special color need will likely want more than one or two color cartridges that they can't easily get more of. Better to have included blue and black, and left the colors to be ordered in a bottle for use with the adapter. After all, why tease us with something we can't find to buy?

4 out of 5 stars Solid product in nice packaging   July 1, 2009
David Vandevoorde (New Jersey, U.S.A.)
When I was a kid, we were required in grade school to write with a fountain pen (mid-1970s to early 1980s in a European country). Our pens were ridiculously cheap (two or three bucks) and wrote reliably, but at that price they weren't built very solidly. Still, most lasted at least a few years.

So when my daughter -- who's going to first grade -- asked me for a fountain pen I figured I'd look for a Waterman model I remembered. I wasn't entirely surprised that I couldn't find the exact model I used, but I was surprised that Waterman no longer seems to cater to the grade school crowd. And a bit of Googling further suggested that no-one else really does either (the few pens under $20 I found all included reviews mentioning that they didn't write smoothly).

In the end, I decided to splurge on this little package: I figured my daughter would love having all the ink options and I knew she'd love the slightly-kitschy design. I wasn't disappointed: She loved it and the pen writes well in her young hand. "Medium nib" is slightly too thick to my taste, but since she still writes a fairly large hand, it works for her.

So all in all a solid product at a price that seems to be competitive in the current market, but which I still find a bit steep.

I bought this here on Amazon (from MarketFair Stationary). The package arrived on time and in good condition, but it was a bit dusty on the outside.
