in love with my LAMY June 29, 2010 S. Hwang (Beverly Hills, MI United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely love this pen! This is my first fountain pen. An ink cartridge came with the pen and I received the converter free with purchase. I was a bit baffled at first because it took a while for the ink to flow from the cartridge to the nib. Does anyone have any suggestions to speed up the process next time or do you just have to be patient and wait for the ink to flow? I ended up shaking the pen for about 5 min and tapping it on scratch paper.
I love this pen because 1. It's large enough in diameter that it's very comfortable to write with. 2. You don't need to press hard for the ink to appear on paper - it relieves muscle strain in my hands and wrist. 3. The extra fine nib is perfect for everyday uses and I will often use the pen with the nib "upside down" when I am drawing. 4. The clear design of the pen is modern looking and aesthetically pleasing to me.
After having used the pen for nearly a week, I have noticed that it uses up ink very quickly. I am already at three-quarters of the ink cartridge. I went to Office Depot and picked up a Black refill water based ink (the kind used for stamp ink pads) for $4.99 (0.9 oz). I will invest in waterproof ink later.
suprised May 23, 2010 Jeremy J. Whiteley (texASS) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this pen because I like fine nibs and the fine nib Lamy was a little too broad for me. Well, I received this new one and this nib writes a wider line than the other. But, upon further inspection, the little "ball" (point) is oblong from front to back and with my writing angle makes the stroke appear like a fine oblique. To conclude, I now like this pen better than the first one I bought. Both are excellent writers though, even if you don't really get what you were originally looking for. :)
a great buy! May 1, 2010 Kelley H. Crawford (COLLINSVILLE, TX, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
let me start by saying this is a very good pen and a great buy, in fact, unless you are short on money, there is no reason you shouldn't buy this pen. only complaints is that the nib was kinda scratchy when it came, but i figured out that it was from the way the mail-persons handled it, and fixed it with some fine-grain sandpaper. now it writes so well you wouldn't even notice you are touching the paper! also: get a Z-24 converter, it will be one of the best buys of your life! if you get a converter, might i suggest Noodler's Heart of Darkness ink? Noodler's Heart of Darkness Black Fountain Pen Inkit is very good and comes with a free, hollowed out (so it holds more ink) platinum preppy fountain pen, which is very good, i might add.
Large fun workhorse pen February 27, 2010 Kim R. Stahler 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Strong clip, tough workhorse pen in a shape that won't roll off the desk, comfortable grip, and cool see-through body gets this pen noticed at work. Make sure to get the EF nib though, which is similar to an American fine. Anything else is hugely broad in my view. broad nibs take up too much ink and are not as comfortable to write with, but that is a very debatable opinion, I realize.
The nib has a unique velvety feel to it and is firm, but not a nail, meaning it has a teensy bit of give. I see architects with these sometimes, because they have a cool gadgety look. Lightweight pen is very long with the cap posted. I really should get a few more of these, though the clear one is the coolest-looking. Get a syringe (and good luck with that; no one will believe you are not a drug addict) and fill up your empty carts each time to avoid tossing plastic, or use a converter.
This is strange, but my handwriting is slightly different depending on the pen I use (and I only write with fountain pens). I really like the version I get with this pen, so I guess I can say the Lamy Vista improves my handwriting. This is from a person who has hundreds of pens, mostly low-end, good quality workhorses from Pilot and other Asian companies. I still love my German Lamys and Pelikans too. Write on!
Excellent February 22, 2010 Shostakovich (Maryland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The nib is wonderful. I've used up an ink tube, and in that time it hasn't skipped once. I've had no trouble with it drying out.
Although "extra-fine," the thickness of the line is what I'd expect from a medium nib. I had read that Lamy nibs are "wetter" than most, and this pen is consistent with that.
