Good starter pens March 31, 2008 Gwen (Virginia, United States) I picked up a 3-pack (Black, Blue and Purple) from Staples on Saturday and am loving them - this is a starter pack for me. The writing is good for me and my "recycled paper" journal. The ink doesn't leak through except for a little bit here and there. I picked up the 3-pack for about $6 incl tax so I don't know why anyone would buy one off here. Of course the choice of colors goes down because those three were the only colors available. In fact, these fountain pens were the only ones available for under $75. Happy writing!
Good deal March 21, 2008 Uinta Hiker A nice pen. Even my 6-yr-old daughter uses one for homework. I wish pilot would make a refillable version of the Varsity. The only one I did not like was the purple -- the ink it uses seems to blotch -- the blue and black are champions.
Shipping is ridiculous! March 19, 2008 Bonnie J. Corzilius 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have used and like this product. However, beware of the shipping, which is $4.51 on top of the price of the pen. That is a rip-off. If you can buy it from a local supply store you are better off.
A great starter or value pen, but the description is no longer correct. February 29, 2008 A. D. Warner (Burlington, VT USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a remarkably good pen for the price. Unfortunately, it is not a fine point, and it doesn't have a black barrel. Maybe it did at one time, but as of February 2008 ordering this item will get you a medium nib/blue ink/silver-black striped pen. The sellers were very good about it, and even sent me a couple from another listing which turned out to be the same. I checked Pilot's site, and they don't seem to make this pen in different nib widths. It's unclear if they still make the black-barrel style. Still, for the price it has an amazingly smooth nib which writes on the wide side of medium. Like many fountain pens, it can also be used upside-down for a somewhat finer line. It's a great starter pen and perfect for situations where a pen might be lost or damaged. In conclusion: the pen is great, but the listing is wrong.
Nice pen January 9, 2008 DJ (Columbia, SC United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Nice pen. I've always liked fountain pens. This is not messy at all to work with. However, the shipping for this item was outrageous! One pen put into a huge box with air pillows was so unnecessary and costly. I felt like I was scammed. I should have paid closer attention at checkout because somehow I missed this.
